If you liked Phoebe and Beau, then why not drop in and get to know a little more about their ansestors
Parnew Whippets
Collooney Kennels - Ireland
If you would like to know a little more about what it is like to live with a whippet, drop in on K9. Owners from all over the world share their stories of this beautiful breed of dogs.
The Whippet Archive is a website dedicated to collecting whippet pedigrees from all over the world. Many of the whippets entered onto this site can be traced back to the very first Whippet Champion, Zuber, and his parents, Charlie and Lizzie.
Phoebe (Parnew Irish Mist) and Beau (Parnew Proven Innocent) can be found on the Whippet Archive.
We believe that you will only get out of your dog what you put into it. A club is a great way to share your love of dogs. We are active members of the following clubs:
Bellarine Dog Activities Group - BDAG - See if you can find the photo of Beau on the website. Here's a clue, he's wearing his red coat
The Whippet Association of Victoria
We are also members of the V.C.A. and, have recently joined the Geelong and District Kennel Club
Buying a puppy or a dog, should mean a lifetime commitment. Unfortunately for many dogs this is simply not the case. Animal welfare centre’s are full of other people's cast offs. Our second whippet Max was rescued from an Animal Welfare Centre. He was approximatley 1 year old, he had been beaten and abused by his former owners before being dumped. Max had just two days left before he was due to be put to sleep. Luckily for us, and Max, we had a long and happy life together, but as you can imagine, animal welfare and dog rescue is a very emotive subject to us.
We would like to think that as pet owners become increasingly aware of their responsibilities towards their pets, we can in some small way all help to reduce this heartbreaking cycle. We would urge any one looking at our website to think very carefully before buying a puppy or a dog, as to where they spend their $$$.
Puppy’s in pet shops prey on our emotions. It becomes an impulse, we either want to save them, or we just can’t resist that sweet little face. Our local welfare centre claims that many of the dogs handed into them, are done so before the dog has turned one. Many of these dogs have been bought from either a pet shop, or a backyard breeder. The novelty has worn off with the cuteness factor, and the dog is no longer wanted.
If you have a strong desire to rescue a dog, then please visit your nearest animal welfare centre, or contact the breed club, to see if they have any rescued dogs looking for a new home. If you are wanting to start fresh with a puppy, then please contact a registered breeder.
While the puppy in the window is definitely cute, the story behind them can at times be horrific. Personally, we would not want to buy a puppy that was bred by someone who cared so little about the welfare of their pups, that they do not wish to meet their puppies new owners. Registered Breeders have a Code of Ethics which they must comply with. Registered Breeders care about the welfare of the dogs they have bred. Registered Breeders want to introduce you to their puppies mother.

Coats
Whippets feel the cold, so coats are a necessity. This is definitely our favorite coat.

Collars
Choosing the right type of collar for your whippet is essential. Wide collars and martindale are an excellent choice of collar for your whippet.

These would have to be the silliest coats we have ever seen. We wouldn't put them on our dogs, but they do make us smile.
